SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID-Lamp
The SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID lamp offers an exceptionally long service life combined with high UV stability, ensuring optimal and highly economical use. Compared to other lighting solutions, such as UV fluorescent tubes and UV compact lamps, which lose significant radiation intensity about 3-4 months after initial use, the SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID lamp provides a consistently stable UV spectrum over the long term.
Please note that conventional glass panes are not UV-transparent. For this reason, the light source should always be installed inside the vivarium, as this is the only way to ensure sufficient UV-A and UV-B radiation. Unlike humans, reptiles and birds can see ultraviolet light very well. A possible lack of UV light that vivarium inhabitants are exposed to often goes unnoticed by the keeper. Ultraviolet light is not only required for vitamin D3 synthesis, preventing rickets, but it also helps many animals with foraging and recognizing conspecifics/partners. The SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID lamp is based on high-intensity discharge (HID) technology with optimal UV radiation and is the ideal product for illuminating your amphibians, reptiles, and birds. With a color temperature of 5000 K, it effectively produces pure daylight and impresses with a color rendering index of over 86%. A balanced ratio of UV radiation to conventional light is essential for the long-term health, care, and breeding of vivarium inhabitants, preventing bone growth deficiencies, and noticeably increasing breeding success. UV lamps are therefore indispensable for lighting the vivariums of many amphibians, reptiles, and birds.
Technical Data / Installation
The SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID lamp must be operated with a compatible ballast.
The aluminum housing of the SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID lamp reduces the temperature at the burner by about 200°C. Improved heat management slows down the molecular change of the quartz glass, ensuring long-term UV stability. The HID lamp continuously delivers a linear sunlight spectrum of 5000 K. The lamps must be operated in a thermostable E27 lamp socket. Glass almost completely blocks UV radiation, so the lamps should always be installed inside the terrarium. A ballast with the appropriate wattage is required. For the safety of the animals, the lamps should be mounted out of their reach! The SOLAR RAPTOR® ClampLamps are ideal for this purpose – they come with a protective grid and compatible connectors for the SOLAR RAPTOR® EVGs (electronic ballasts) and can be connected without tools.
Operating Instructions
The recommended lifespan of the light bulb is 4,000 hours. Operation with thermostats is discouraged, as frequent switching on and off can cause the bulb to age quickly. A minimum operating time of 8 hours is recommended; if this minimum is significantly undershot, the lifespan of the SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID lamp will noticeably decrease! The UV intensity of the lamp can change, as with all similar light sources, over time. To ensure optimal values for your animals, we also offer optional measuring devices to regularly monitor the UV output. This allows you to replace the light bulb when necessary, as the responsibility for timely bulb replacement lies with the animal keeper.
Please note
- When first switched on, the lamp must be operated continuously for at least 2 hours to burn in and stabilize. This prevents damage to the light bulb!
- Prematurely turning off the lamp can destroy the light bulb!
- Only replace the bulb and perform installation when the lamp is completely switched off — we recommend unplugging the power cord from the socket.
- The SOLAR RAPTOR® UV HID lamp must only be operated with a compatible ballast.
- The ballast should only be connected by a professional to avoid damage to people, animals, and equipment.
- Depending on the model, there is a protective film on the back of the ballast, which must be removed before use to prevent thermal damage.
- Never mount this lamp near flammable objects.
- Ensure proper screw connection of the Easy-Plug connection to guarantee splash-proof protection.
- Each ballast should only be operated with the corresponding light bulb. Consult your specialist dealer. Example: 35 HID = 35 ECG.
- Many of the conducting electrical components are under high voltage when switched on.
- Ensure adequate ventilation. Never cover the light bulb or the ECG.
- Use only temperature-resistant lamp sockets.
- In the event of abnormalities in operation the lamp must be removed immediately.
- To ensure long-lasting, effective UV lighting, we recommend not using the light bulb for more than 12 months with continuous operation of 12 hours daily, as a decline in UV values is expected due to normal wear.
- Even when switched off, the housing of all SOLAR RAPTOR® products may only be opened by authorized professionals or the manufacturer to avoid voiding the warranty and liability. This does not affect your statutory rights under the latest product liability and consumer protection laws.
